Account book, 1816-1843.

These two volumes document the business accounts of Samuel Kendrick, a manufacturer of carding machines from 1816-1843. Kendrick made cards and machines from various types of wood, primarily pine, maple, and ash, as documented by the purchases of lumber recorded in this account book. Kendrick exported his products internationally, and often personally delivered and set up machines at local Essex County, MA textile manufacturers, including Amesbury Flannel Co. He supplemented his income by transporting goods for others, making rope, hat boxes, doing light carpentry work, and turning such wooden objects as chisel handles and whippletrees. Entries include date, description of work performed or items sold, price and customer name. Also included are some pre-manufacturing agreements with his customers for sales of his carding machines.
